What the role involved

• Designing and building core platform features — agent execution engine, memory management, tool orchestration layer
• Working on the REST API and SDK surface, including versioning, backwards compatibility, and documentation
• Improving reliability and observability across the platform: distributed tracing, structured logging, alerting
• Collaborating directly with early access customers to understand real-world usage patterns and translate them into platform improvements
• Owning features end-to-end from design through to production and monitoring
• Contributing to AI agent evaluation tooling and prompt infrastructure

What we were looking for

• 3+ years of experience building and shipping production backend systems
• Strong proficiency in Python (primary backend language) and comfort with TypeScript
• Solid understanding of distributed systems concepts: consistency, latency trade-offs, retry semantics, idempotency
• Experience working with LLM APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic, or similar) in a production context
• Familiarity with vector databases, embeddings, or retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) patterns
• Comfort owning a problem from first principles rather than waiting for a detailed spec
• Clear written communication — we’re a remote team and writing is how we think together

Nice to have

• Experience building developer-facing products or APIs
• Prior work on agent frameworks, multi-step reasoning systems, or tool-use pipelines
• Contributions to open source projects in the ML/AI tooling space
• Experience with infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, Pulumi) and cloud-native deployments (GCP/AWS)
